Attention E30 M3 and classic BMW owners! The original APEX wheel is back. It’s been over two years since our last production run of our 17x8” ET20 and 17x8.5” ET20 5-lug wheels. This is your chance to help bring these wheels back into production. This wheel is the reason APEX was started over 10 years ago. It created a new lightweight, strong, affordable option for E30 M3 drivers that was not found anywhere else in the market. Since then, an entire family of nearly 30 unique ARC-8 fitments have been produced...
The wheel sizes in this Group Buy are tailored for the E30 M3, but can also work on some of our favorite old school BMWs as well. While this niche isn’t exactly the most popular in the aftermarket wheel industry, we still wanted to give the community a chance to bring these wheels back into production. With enough participation, we can make these wheels a reality again.
We do have minimum production numbers that need to be met for each size before we can move forward with production. We are happy to stock additional units, but we will need at least half of the production run to be pre-sold before we can commit to bringing them back. Due to the small production runs, we will only produce both sizes if there is demand, and will likely produce only the two most popular finishes. When joining you’ll be asked to select optional backup finishes and a backup size in case your first choice is unavailable. Not selecting a backup means we’ll automatically cancel your order if your size or finish is not produced. These wheels are far too niche of a fitment to bring to market without the community’s support.
Note: This group buy requires the purchase of at least two of the following ARC-8 wheel sizes: 17x8” ET20 (Profile 1) or 17x8.5” ET20 (Profile 3). For those who are interested in a set of wider rear wheels, we will also be offering the following: 17x9” ET42, 17x9” ET30, and 17x10” ET25.
Since this Group Buy is to bring back our discontinued 17x8” ET20 and 17x8.5” ET20 wheels, these optional wheels are available as a rear fitment only for the rare customer looking to run a more aggressive setup.

*This fitment is a direct bolt-on with 215/40-17 tires and is for customers looking for a “ready to go” fitment. A 235/40-17 tire should be reserved for customers looking for a track fitment and are willing to put in some work to make them fit. Negative camber will be required up front to fit properly. The rear should be a direct fit, however there will be a risk of rubbing your fender liner depending on what control arms are used.
*This fitment is an aggressive concave fitment, and may require spacer up front in order to clear certain suspensions. This fitment will NOT clear big brake kits. This fitment will require a touch of negative camber up front to clear your fenders. This is dependent on ride height and tire brand/compound. A 235/40-17 tire can also be used, but this will require quite a bit of negative camber up front and potential fender roll/negative camber in the rear. This tire size is very aggressive and not recommended for customers wanting a direct fit.
Customers looking for a more aggressive rear fitment have the option of purchasing the 17x9” ET30, 17x9” ET42, or 17x10” ET25 wheels. These sizes are only available as a rear fitment option at this time. Additional fender work and/or negative camber may be needed to run those rear fitments.
• 3mm front spacers required with stock suspension or lowering springs.
• Wider tires can be used with larger spacers and negative camber + rolled front fenders
• Rear fender roll may be required depending on ride height and tire brand. At stock height, rubbing is unlikely but may occur under extreme compression.
• Option 1 is a direct fit
• Option 2 requires 3mm front spacers with stock suspension or lowering springs.
• Wider tires can be used with larger spacers and negative camber + rolled front fenders.
The right solution for every application
The concave 17” wheels are for those looking for one of the lightest and strongest wheels that can be utilized in many applications such as a very flush fitment on a stock body E36 or E46 and a track day fitment for the E9X non-M. If you’re looking for low offset 17” wheels, these deep concave ARC-8 wheels are perfect for you.
One design, many levels of beauty
The ARC-8 wheels available in this Group Buy feature our deepest, most concave face profile. The shape of the concave spokes were specifically designed to all for the deepest concavity while clearing OEM brake calipers.
More than just a pretty face
The spokes of the ARC-8 were designed to be robust where they need to be, and extra lightweight where they should be. In each iteration of our ARC-8 design, the split "Y" spokes are carefully evaluated from structural aspects to ensure light weight and remarkable strength. The lack of a deep front lip, but instead spokes that connect directly to the barrel's lip, creates a rigid wheel with incredibly even load distribution. These features help reduce one of the most common concerns with aftermarket wheels — bending. Beauty follows function with this extremely popular and timeless design.
Form follows function
Race wheels can't just be light, they need to function in a high performance environment. Unlike the narrow lug recesses of most other wheels, the ARC-8 wheel features a wide open hub center that easily accommodate over-sized race lugs and beefy impact sockets. This allows for quick and easy wheel changes and prevents chips and scratches from tools.
Spokes that work for you
APEX wheels properly clear all OEM brake calipers. Our wheels are targeted at the serious performance-minded owner. The spokes of the ARC-8 clear Big Brake Kits on newer model BMW’s. Older models such as the E36, E46, Z3, Z4 will require a spacer to clear aftermarket calipers. These spacers can range from 5-20mm depending on the application, which usually results in an unacceptably aggressive fitment. These wheels are best for owners with stock brakes or newer models such as the E9X and F3X. Ask our experts by using the discussion tab if you would like us to confirm your specific fitment.
A lot of room in a tight space
Spoke clearance is only half the problem. The barrel opening on a wheel also needs to be big enough to clear the sides of your caliper and rotor. Many wheels on the market have aesthetic compromises in their design that consumers don’t even know result in major negative impacts on barrel clearance. Those wheels may work with smaller stock brakes, or smaller diameter big brake kits, but the larger kits will pose a major problem. The concave 17” ARC-8 has some of the best barrel-side BBK clearance, easily fitting most aftermarket 355mm kits. Ask our experts by using the discussion tab if you would like us to confirm your specific fitment.
No rings or adapters here
All APEX ARC-8 wheels are purpose built for select vehicle applications, and centering rings are never required for any BMW application. All 5x120mm bolt pattern wheels feature a direct-fit, 72.56mm center bore.
A factory fit and finish
We don't reuse one cap design for all of our wheels. Every ARC-8 wheel is designed to work with factory center caps. You can easily replace APEX center caps with OEM BMW roundels for a clean factory look. The ARC-8 wheels will ship with our redesigned Gloss Black center cap that mimics the size and shape of a BMW factory center cap.
Original or Aftermarket, it all works
The ARC-8 wheel can be used with all OEM and aftermarket mounting hardware with a 60° tapered seat. Lug bolts, wheel locks, and stud conversion kits all work perfectly. The ARC-8 wheel also accepts wheel spacers without issue. The shallow rear chamfer allows the wheel to remain hub centric even when 5mm flat spacers are used. The chamfer is deep enough to clear the chamfered lip found on some aftermarket spacers that would typically cause improper seating of the wheel and, therefore, wheel vibration.
They all fit
TPMS sensors, which monitor tire pressure, are one piece of technology that can't be compromised. The attention to OEM compatibility on the ARC-8 wheel doesn't end with center caps. All APEX wheels accept OEM and aftermarket equivalent BMW TPMS sensors, and any standard sized metal or rubber valve stem.
Benefits of forging, without the pain
These APEX wheels are produced using a manufacturing process known as flow forming. This process significantly reduces weight in the barrel, which has the greatest impact on rotational mass. During the manufacturing process, rollers apply high pressure to the inner barrel, compressing the aluminum into its final shape. This effectively eliminates porosity and aligns the grain structure of the metal, which increases tensile strength. The end result is a lightweight and extremely strong barrel that equals that of a traditional forged wheel at a fraction of the cost.
Testing & Certifications
Verifiable 3rd party testing
Many companies promote their wheels as being certified by the VIA when they actually aren’t. That’s like using the USDA logo on food without permission. APEX wheels get officially tested and registered by the VIA in Japan, and we have the proof to back it up. Learn more about false VIA claims.
Japan’s JWL is a commonly followed standard for wheel load ratings. Our flow formed wheels meet, and most exceed, their load rating requirements. Most manufacturers only meet the minimum while some don’t even do that. Check and verify load ratings before you buy. Learn more about wheels that aren’t JWL.
Weight & Strength Optimization
It's all in the details
Various design features were implemented to ensure that the ARC-8 wheel design was as light and durable as possible. We began with a strong one-piece design featuring an open hub center and reliefs in the mounting pad to remove weight between lug holes. The design was then run through Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to further optimize the spoke and barrel design. The result is a light weight wheel with extra strength in all the right places, while keeping weight to a minimum.
Because being faster is just not enough
The ARC-8 wheel is available in multiple finishes. All APEX wheels are finished using a comprehensive multi-stage liquid paint system over a powder coated base. Often overlooked, painted or powder coated lug hole seats can cause hardware to loosen or begin the spread of paint chipping to more visible sections. The coating process of the ARC-8 leaves lug holes, center bores, and mounting pads untouched which ensures proper fit and torque values.
A wheel you can depend on
All APEX wheels are backed by a 2 year structural warranty and a 1 year finish warranty to the original. This warranty guarantees that all APEX wheels will be free from defects in materials, workmanship, and paint finish under normal and reasonable use.
