A design fit to win
An optimized car setup begins with the perfect wheel and tire fitment. The 17x9.0” ET42 ARC-8 configuration was built with feedback from very well know industry leaders to meet the needs of the hardcore performance enthusiast. That means the right fit and the most grip possible, for the flexibility to work for street enthusiasts and racers alike.
The ARC-8 is a direct bolt on that accommodates many different brake configurations. It was specifically designed for ideal suspension and fender clearance — even when using the widest, meatiest performance tires! Offset was purposefully chosen to allow for direct bolt-on fitment, or the use of camber bolts, clearing the factory fenders and struts. The spokes naturally have more caliper clearance versus a deeply concave, or lip-style wheel. Many of these small choices add up to maximized flexibility and performance for the end user.
More than just a pretty face
The spokes of the ARC-8 were designed to be robust where they need to be, and extra lightweight where they should be. In each iteration of our ARC design, the split spokes are carefully evaluated to ensure light weight and remarkable strength. The lack of a deep front lip, and implementing spokes that connect directly to the barrel’s lip create a rigid wheel, with very even load distribution. These features help reduce one of the most common concerns with aftermarket wheels — bending.
Get in, get out, and get on with your business
To simply be lightweight is only a start, our wheels need to meet our high standards of functionality in a real high performance environment.
Unlike the narrow lug recesses of many other wheels, the ARC-8 wheel boasts a completely wide-open wheel hardware recess that easily fits race lug-nuts and the beefy adapters or impact sockets used to fit them. This allows for quick and easy wheel changes at the track, or just as a bonus; prevents chips and scratches from tools upon install or removal.
Direct fit, no compromises
Centering rings are never required for a direct fit with APEX wheels. For this application, a 56.1mm center bore is utilized. Rings might not sound so bad until one rolls away during a wheel change, or gets seized onto a wheel hub!
We have become known for a product with real world features and utility, and our wheels specifically have a shallow rear chamfer to allow the wheel to remain hub centric even if spacers are used. A wider chamfer could seem appealing, but can cause improper seating and wheel vibration on other wheels, this isn't a problem with APEX wheels.
Compatible with your OEM accessories
Some users like their aftermarket parts to blend in; for us that means details are not overlooked like compatibility with factory center caps. Our ARC-8 wheels are designed to accept factory or 49mm direct replacement OE style center caps from the FR-S, BRZ or GT86. That means you can pop in the Scion, Subaru, ‘86’, or TRD caps!
Spokes that work for you
APEX wheels properly clear all OEM brake calipers including many bolt-on BBKs. Our wheels are targeted at the serious performance-minded owner knowing many will elect to upgrade the basic OE caliper and disc setup as they get more serious with mods. If you do go with a big brake kit (BBK), most that clear 17” wheels will fit behind our low profile spokes without spacers. Some may need a thin spacer due to the added width of aftermarket calipers.
Confirmed BBK clearance: Stoptech ST40 328mm, Essex-AP Sprint & Endurance, AP Racing 330mm, Wilwood's kits, RacingBrake 4045, STi 4 Piston, 300ZX 4 Piston, Alcon 334mm, Sparta 355mm (3mm spacer is recommended), Tarox B32-6 326mm kit, RR Racing Stage I through IV Competition kits.
A lot of room in a tight space
Spoke clearance is only half the problem. The barrel opening on a wheel also needs to be large enough to clear the sides of your caliper. Many wheels on the market make aesthetic compromises to their design that have a major negative impact on barrel clearance. Those wheels may work with stock brakes and smaller diameter big brake kits (BBKs), but larger brake kits can pose major clearance problems. Our barrel opens up wider and earlier than most aftermarket wheels. This creates the largest possible inside diameter to accommodate a wide range of BBKs.
Original or Aftermarket, it all works
Go ahead and take your pick! The ARC-8 wheels can be used with all FR-S/ BRZ/ GT86 OEM and aftermarket mounting hardware with a 60° tapered seat (i.e Muteki, Project Kiks, etc). We’ve slightly tweaked the design of the lug nut seats to perfectly support the use of OEM hardware without compromising strength or safety.
Race function without sacrificing creature comforts
The attention to OEM compatibility on the ARC-8 wheel doesn’t end with center caps and lugs. All APEX wheels accept OEM and aftermarket equivalent TPMS sensors and any standard sized metal or rubber valve stem. TPMS sensors, which monitor tire pressure and communicate to your on-board dash computer, are fully compatible and needn’t be compromised or left out when considering our wheels. The short story: This means no constantly illuminated orange TPMS light on your dash.
Put the power where you need it... the ground
Tires are known to be the most important factor for optimizing performance on both road and track cars. The twins are known for their positively radical performance improvements with the correct tires fitted. Our knowledge of tires is highly intimate and we select wheel configurations to make the most of available room for tires. Experience expert-level results simply by selecting the tires that fit your needs from our descriptive guide. If you're confused, all you need to do is contact us and we can guide you into the configurations we know work!
Benefits of forging, without the pain
All APEX wheels, including the ARC-8 wheel, are produced using the Flow-Forming technique. This process significantly reduces weight in the barrel, which has the greatest impact on rotational mass. During the manufacturing process, rollers apply high pressure to the inner barrel, compressing the aluminum into it's final shape. This effectively eliminates porosity and aligns the grain structure of the metal, which increases tensile strength. The end result of the Flow-Forming process is a lightweight and extremely strong barrel that equals that of a traditional forged wheel at a fraction of the cost.
Testing & Certifications
We break a lot of wheels
Computer simulated stress tests are no match for real world testing when designing a light-weight wheel that will see extreme loads. All APEX wheels are crush and load tested to exceed JWL standards and those results are independently tested in Japan by the 3rd party government agency known as the VIA. Countless wheel companies falsely claim they are tested and certified by the VIA, and so they lack the certificates to prove it. We test and certify each and every design, diameter, width, and offset, separately. We publicly list all our VIA registration numbers which are on file with the VIA for confirmation. Don't trust brands that claim testing, but can't provide verifiable registration numbers.
Weight & Strength Optimization
It’s all in the details
Various design features were implemented to ensure that the ARC-8 wheel design was light, but had even more strength to handle the abuses experienced in endurance racing. We began with a beefy, multi-spoke, one-piece design. We built and test this wheel with even higher load rating requirements. We added reliefs in the mounting pad to remove weight between lug holes, where we could safely save weight. The design was then run through Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to further optimize the spoke and barrel design. The result is a lightweight wheel with extra strength in all the right places. Use the ARC-8 with confidence is over built for both street and track.
Be fast and look great doing it
The ARC-8 wheel is available in multiple finishes to suit your taste. All APEX wheels are finished using a comprehensive, highly durable, multi-stage liquid paint over a electrostatically bonded powder coat base.
Often overlooked, painted or powder coated lug seats can cause hardware to be improperly torqued or begin to chip the paint across visible sections of the wheel. Our wheel coating process leaves lug holes, center bores and mounting pads unpainted which ensures proper fit and torque values during fastening.
Warranty & Customer Care
A wheel and brand you can depend on
APEX Race Parts places the utmost emphasis on customer satisfaction. APEX wheels are backed by a 2 year structural warranty and a 1 year finish warranty. This warranty guarantees that all APEX wheels will be free from defects in materials, workmanship, and paint finish under normal and reasonable use.
Have an issue? We’re enthusiasts just like you and we deeply care about our customers. If an issue ever arises, we will always do our best to rectify the problem.

- The APEX Team
So I purchased anthracite valve stems to provide a cleaner look but I didn’t purchase the TPmsdue to the statement that the oem ones could be reused with the new stems. I took my wheels to the shop to find out that the sensor is a one piece design and that new stem is not compatible. I’m unsure if this is an issue given I have a 2018 model, but I bought the stems with the intention to reuse the sensors and I can’t even do that.
After looking into this further, you are correct. The OEM TPMS sensors have integrated valve stems which are not interchangeable with aftermarket valve stems. HUF, the manufacturer of OE sensors, offers multiple styles/part numbers and we sell the type that have removable valve stems.
If you would like to return your valve stems, please visit this page and we would be happy to accommodate your request.
I apologize for the inconvenience.
Your order has been released in our system, therefore it should ship out within the next couple business days. Our warehouse is working hard to get wheels out the door as soon as possible, and for most GB participants, wheels will be received ahead of schedule.
Thank you again for your order,
Happy to help iStylez. Interflop is correct, 245/40-17 and 255/40-17 are the two most popular tires sizes used, however, some enthusiasts have also gone with 235/40-17. A vast majority go with a 245/40-17, as a 9" wheel provides this size tire with good sidewall support and there are a lot of tire choices available. We offer Michelin PS4S in the 245/40-17 size, and they can be added to your order if you would like. Our pricing on that tire is in alignment with TireRack and other popular sites, and we include free mounting and road force balancing.
Track enthusiasts looking to maximize grip will go as wide as 255/40-17, however, negative camber is encouraged.
Thanks guys! Don't worry about adding it to my order, as i'm sourcing tyres locally when the wheels arrive.
however just for a clear line of confirmation - and for anyone else who's wondering - will the 245\40\17 suit stock suspension or are coilovers a "must". As i'm most likely going to be running these on stock suspension till the time is right for me to go coilovers.
Thank you again!
It looks like something got weird with my pledge -
I thought I requested #1 Anthracite, #2 silver, #3 satin black.
My email confirmation of order said #1 satin black #2 silver #3 satin black.
Can I please get this corrected to #1 Anthracite, #2 silver, #3 black?
Thank you for your interest, Jochs02, and we are sorry that we missed you. Ivan is correct, the Group Buy is officially closed and we are unable to add any more participants at this time. The 17x9" ET42 5x100 wheels will be available on our website once we replenish our inventory. We hope to work with you in the future.
Would Apex want to post a table of numbers for selected 1st choice finishes by us pledges. Obviously, we dont know what's in your inventory, or order of pledge finishes but might make it suspensfully interesting to see what finish the community wants ;)
Black-12, Silver-10,Gunmetal-7,Bronze-4 lol
Also Ryan, just wanted to say with all questions you feedback/replies are very well structured and informative for those following the comments. Thanks for your diligence.
Can't wait for this deal to closeout already ha! Super excited.
Appreciate the feedback! The deal is moving full steam ahead with over 40 pledges in place, and the GangUp site plays a big part in keeping the deal structured and organized.
Customer finish (and fitments for other deals that offer a variety) preferences are currently not available for public viewing, but it is an interesting idea.
You certainly can, but keep in mind you are pulling aged sensors from an existing set of wheels and tires. This means you'll incur the expense of dismounting the tires off of your stock wheels to access the sensors, and possibly the expense of remounting those tires if you intend to keep that wheel and tire package intact as a backup set or if you intend to sell them. If the sensors are many years old, then they may not last much longer once installed on the new setup. If the sensors are relatively new, then it may make sense.
I only bring this up as the question comes up often, and in many cases, it makes more sense to purchase new sensors for the new set of wheels and tires - especially if we will be mounting and road force balancing a wheel and tire package for you prior to shipping.
I hope this is helpful.
I know you mentioned that you do aim for every pledge to get their first choice - historically have the first 25 pledges all gotten their first choice? Really excited and hoping that despite being 24 that I can get a set of bronze because that’s all I really want. Thanks
We definitely understand your desire to get your first finish preference, and we do our absolute best to accommodate everyone. The good news is that even if we sell through a particular finish, we typically have replenishment units available shortly thereafter. I'll contact you if we happen to get low on matte bronze :)
A quick question as I havent been a part of a group deal like this or understand how the process truly works. Does Apex already have X amount of Arc8s in different finishes etc to where upon closeout of group buy the wheels juat start getting mailed to pledges once final payment or do orders go i to manufacturer for X amount of wheels and finishes etc to where pledges may wait weeks or months to get pledged products of interest? Figured it was a good expectaion of the timeline and I'm sure part of it is subjective based on how many pledges order what Apex already has?
Great question. We have a healthy amount of inventory on our shelves, therefore, we will promptly begin shipping out orders once the Group Buy comes to a close and payment has been successfully captured. Past Group Buy participants have been pleasantly surprised by how fast they receive wheels. You may have noticed that the official "ships by date" is listed as late Febraury. This purposely a conservative time frame to ensure we are meeting delivery expectations as each of our Group Buy's result in different quantities sold.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Looking forward to the wheels, but my billing credit card is closed now. How do I change the pledged credit card I have on file? Was unable to find that in review/edit of deal. Thanks ahead of time.
Great to have you on board. GangUp is working on adding this functionality through the "edit my pledge" button, however, at this time the only way to change your payment information would be to cancel your existing pledge and create a new one with your updated card information.
I apologize for this inconvenience.
Certainly. By logging into your GangUp account you can edit your pledge. Since there is only one wheel size available in this Group Buy and we have already achieved the max discount tier, the only thing left to edit would be your wheel finish preferences or adding accessories like color matched metal valve stems.
Please let us know if you have any further questions,
Apex, I wanted these wheels last year and work with Brian but was saddened that the Matte Bronze finish I wanted was not going to be filled the rest of the year. I see we met max discount and when pledging I only marked and want just matte Bronze. How does it work with pledge # I was, only wanting one finish that I will in fact be able to get just Matte Bronze? Thanks I'm super excited and cant wait. Dan
Great to hear from you again, Dan, and glad that you were able to join in on the savings! You are more than welcome to select one finish preference with no backup. We fulfill orders in chronological order and will do our absolute best to accommodate everyone's first choice. If a backup finish is not selected and we happen to sell through a particular finish, we will reach out to any customer impacted in regards to canceling the order. ____We look forward to communicating with you further. ____Best,__Ryan
Thank you for your interest in the Group Buy, GBuns. We fulfill orders in chronological order once the Group Buy comes to an official close, so in your scenario, you would receive your first choice finish assuming you are higher up on the list. We hope to have enough inventory in each finish for all participants, however, the system does reward those that sign up early in the event a particular finish sells through.
Thank you for your interest in the Group Buy Jing123, and we are sorry to hear you had trouble submitting your pledge. Can you describe the issue you ran into so that I can relay it to the GangUp.com Web Manager? As of this morning, Friday February 1st, your pledge is successfully in place with a minimum required discount of $250. Please let us know if you have any questions.
